Easterlin County Park
Ft. Lauderdale

Easterlin Park is a 46.6-acre Designated Urban Wilderness area.  It has Cypress trees that are 250 years old, and 100 feet tall.  The campground has wooded, and semi private campsites.  They have a great Disc Golf course (check the office for free use of equipment).  Keep in mind Urban Wilderness means you can hear cars & trains.  When you have the convenience of the city, you have city noise.  Close to Ft Lauderdale Beach, and many other attractions.

TY  Park  (Topeekeegee Yugnee) Park
Hollywood/Ft Lauderdale
TY Park is a county park with a water park, baseball/softball feilds, basketball fields, tennis, etc.  They also offer camping.  It is more like a RV park.  We could have parked 4 buses on one lot.  The fence is a running walking path the circles the lake.  Keep in mind, the same as Easterlin, you are in the city and will car traffic, and the train is right by the campground.  This campground has the nicest bath house of all state & county parks I have stayed in.  It is a perfect place to stay in a VW Bus.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park
North of  West Palm Beach
This park is large, 11,500 acres with many nature, bike and horse trails.  There is a picnic area with pavilions and swimming area.  The jungle-like Loxahatchee River (Turtle River) winds through the park.  You can bring or rent canoes, kayaks or motorized boats.  The Loxahatchee Queen II is available for 4 daily trips up the Loxahatchee River to Trapper Nelson's former Zoo and Jungle Garden which is really a fun thing to do.  We saw alligators, turtles, anhinga and osprey.  The ride up the narrow cypress lined winding river was very jungle like.  The Loxahatechee is one of two National Wild and Scenic Rivers in Florida, receiving the distinction in May 1985.  They have a full campground.  Also, you can climb Hobe Mountain Observation Tower for a great view of the ocean, the park and the inter coastal waterway.  Pick up the book in the gift shop "LIfe and Death on the Loxahatchee" for a fascinating read about Trapper Nelson.  Enjoy!

Gamble Rodgers Memorial State Park is a small wedge of land in between A1A and the Atlantic Ocean.  It is small in size, but the location is on a bluff over looking the Atlantic Ocean.  They have nice board walks to the beach.  The staff is always friendly.  The park was named after a local hero, Gamble Roger who was a folk signer.  He lost his life trying to save a man in a rip current on a air mattress.  Do yourself a favor and listen to his music looking in to the horizon.  Book your campsite through Reserve America.
